This award, first presented in 2004, is designed to recognise outstanding individuals who have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit and determination needed to achieve success. It acknowledges and encourages young people (aged between 16 and 35 on 31st January 2005) who have contributed to the development of the district and, through a cash award enables them to develop their business skills to bring benefit to our local community.
Are you or do you know someone whose new business idea is thriving? Have you seen success develop from an innovative approach? Or has someone's effort made a difference to your business or the local community?
The award was presented to Nathan Clarke of Activeware at a gala evening on April 1st 2005, in the Oast Restaurant, Saintfield. The award was presented by the Chairperson of the Down Business Centre and Dermot Curran of the Down District Council.
We are extremely pleased to receive this award in recognition of the achievements we have made over the past 10 months and we are confident that the next 10 months will show our company to be one of the most innovative information technology companies in Ireland

The runner up award went to Nathan Clarke of Activeware, and IT consultancy providing website and e-mail hosting, design, CDRom development and wireless broadband services. Nathan has worked in IT for over 14 years and took the bold step to open his own company to provid much needed IT service to local businesses and residents. The award was sponsored by the Down Business Centre. Councillor Dermot Curran said: "It is vital to the future prosperity of our rural district that we facilitate the establishment and development of 'footloose' hi-tech businesses. "Nathan has not only provided a positive example of how to do this, but has also helped others to further their business aspirations and provided a benefit to the community as a whole."
